Diversity of Livestock

Meat Chickens/Broilers

For the health of my livestock I follow natures seasonal cues. Spring is a great time to hatch and raise chickens. During the cool part of April, the chickens are raised in the barn, after 2 weeks they are robust enough to face the elements. May is perfect to be outside as the grass is flush and the temperature is just perfect for healthy growth.  My birds live in what are known as a Chicken Tractor, it is a 10x10x2′ mobile structure.  Each tractor fits around 50-60 birds. The amount of bugs and grass chickens consume is directly related to how often they are moved to fresh pasture. I move my chickens 3x a day wanting to reduce grain consumption and increase the amount of grass and bugs consumed. This is a lot of moving but the result is nutrient dense meat, with high flavor and yellow skin. My birds are never given hormones or antibiotics and are feed an on farm grain mix. Mixing feed on farm gives me full control to source the highest quality of ingredients and know exactly what my birds are eating. The chickens are a integral part of a holistic farm. Their manure is what feeds the grass, promoting better growth and a more vibrant pasture for all.
