Bale Unrolling

In recent years I have moved to unrolling hay in long rows instead of putting it in a bale feeder. The row of hay encourages my cattle to constantly be seeking, eating and moving up and down. Having the hay in long rows on the ground allows the animal to feed as if it was grazing on pasture. It is my belief that eating at a bale feeder is no different than a human sitting at a desk. Cattle are designed to move and need to move to stay in sound health. I think eating with a natural posture and moving more frequently will reduce lameness and increase productivity in my heard.
